Staying True to the Rules
Recently, a blog post appeared on a site I do not own, manage, or contribute to: bcresidents.com. I want to be absolutely clear: I had nothing to do with that post. I don’t know who wrote it, and I do not condone attempts to pit neighbors against one another.
I also want to make something equally clear: I am not associated with J Cornelius—or any other candidate—nor am I endorsing anyone else. I have my own preferences as a voter, but as a candidate, I firmly believe the election process must be fair, impartial, and transparent. For the record, I have met J. Cornelius only once, and that was at the candidate briefing with the Election Committee.
I am also good friends with two of the other candidates, but friendship does not mean endorsement. Each property owner should vote their conscience.
All candidates, myself included, signed and agreed to the Election Committee’s Candidate Guidelines. I respect those rules and have abided by them. I have not, and will not, post in Facebook community groups. Do I think the guidelines should be updated in the future? Yes. But rules are rules, and until they change, they should apply equally to every candidate.
Unfortunately, I have seen instances where rules, policies, and procedures are treated as optional. That undermines trust and fairness in the process.
As for me, I will continue running a campaign based on transparency, respect, and a commitment to Big Canoe’s future as a strong residential mountain community—not a resort.
