The Good in Big Canoe
With all the conversations swirling around this year’s POA election, it’s easy to focus on the points where we disagree. But I think it’s just as important to pause and recognize what makes Big Canoe special — the things we share as neighbors.
Every morning here starts with fresh mountain air, trails that lead to hidden waterfalls, and the sound of birds that remind us why this community is certified as a Wildlife Sanctuary. We have three lakes, countless ridgelines, and a forest that looks different in every season. That’s the Big Canoe backdrop we all enjoy — regardless of who we vote for.
What also makes Big Canoe unique is the people. We come from all walks of life, but when the unexpected happens — a storm, a medical emergency, or even just helping a neighbor move a heavy piece of furniture — we show up for each other. That spirit of community has always been stronger than our differences.
The election is important, of course. But when the votes are counted, we’ll all still be here — walking our dogs, playing pickleball, enjoying concerts at the Terraces, and sharing stories over dinner with friends. At the end of the day, we’re not just property owners; we’re neighbors.
That’s worth remembering.
